Lake Balkhash, huge, but very shallow, the eastern part of the lake contains salt water, and the western part – almost fresh, so even species of fish that live in different parts of the lake, strikingly different from each other. Total in the country there are about 7 million natural lakes.

Nowruz holiday dates back to the pre-Islamic history of the peoples of Central Asia. It means for Kazakhs people celebration of spring coming, coupled with the vernal equinox. Boys born on this day usually are called Nowrisbuy or Nowrisbek and girls Nowruz or Nowriszgul. Before the feast of the vernal equinox it taken to tidy/clean up the house, to pay debts, to forgive everyone, because, as argued elders, during Nowruz holidays all disease and failure should get rid the houses.

Festive table called Dastarkham is full of dishes. Celebrating Nowruz is always accompanied by folk games, traditional races, entertainment, as well as a horse in the Kazakh tradition occupies a special place. Kazakhs were nomads and thus the horse has played an important role in their lives.
